Marvellous Cain & Bizzy B feat. Tempo O'Neil - Everyday (Mix 1)(Macca, 1996)
Welcome to DnB 365, a blog where I'll be breaking down classic Jungle and DnB, looking at the samples and breaks used and a bit of the backstory behind the tunes. I couldn't think of a more appropriate way to start things off than 'Everyday Junglist', as my aim is to to write about a different track every day throughout 2013.
"My shots coming down like you never did know, coming pow pow like the sounds of your stereo"
Alongside the unidentified vocal sample above Marvellous Cain & Bizzy B's anthem starts off with a bass and horn sample from Stetsasonic's hip-hop classic 'Talkin' All That Jazz' accompanied by the 'Versatility' break before everything stops for Tempo O'Neil's vocal hook: "I'm an everyday junglist, I fight for survival...". The track has sparse drums using the 'Life Could' break with a rough bassline regularly punctuating proceedings, while the duo occasionally drop in the "Street Knowledge" vocal from NWA's 'Straight Outta Compton' and later adding the Amen break to liven things up. Classic '96 jump up business.
I had this on vinyl when it was originally released but shamefully have to admit I traded it for something I now don't even remember. Check out the VIP version which appeared on DJ Hype's excellent The Designer Collection mix for United Dance above or purchase the mp3 directly from Bizzy B's site here. download a TDK VIP from Junglist Download. Alternatively check out 'Mix 2' from the other side of the original 12" here.
